- pragmatist philosophy, peircean semiotics, second order cybernetics
- social systems theories and network theories
- polyocular approach to crossdisciplinary and crosscultural studies; expertise and experience

- systemic ethics; ethics, cognition and awareness;
- sustainability, commons and ecological justice; precaution and responsibility
- relationary theories of quality and value; implications of construing problems in terms of qualities, values or ethics

2004–2007: Leader of Work Package 2 on Identifying and integrating basic ethical values of organic agriculture in the development of the EU Regulation in the EU research project Organic Revision that is to support the revision of the EU regulation on organic agriculture.

2004–now: Initiator and administrator of EcoWiki, a site for ”cooperative web work on organic agriculture and food systems, and related issues”.
